Indonesia is famous for a very rich culture. Various dance and culture are presented from thousands of islands spreading across Indonesia. Many dances have eventually been known to the entire world. They have unique dances and this uniqueness makes it famous and are danced by almost all provinces in Indonesia. We can find many formal occasions and ceremonies performing this dance even it is danced in other provinces and not in Aceh Province.

One of the traditional dances from the plains “Tinggi Gayo”, Gayo Lues Aceh Province, Saman Dance, is expected to obtain a patent owned by the Indonesian people and proposed a “world heritage”. Saman Dance is one of the regional dances of Aceh’s most famous moment. This dance comes from the Gayo highlands. In the past, Saman dance is usually presented to celebrate the event – an important event in the customs and the people of Aceh. Besides this dance usually also displayed to celebrate the birth of the Prophet Muhammad. In fact the name of “Saman” is derived from one of great scholars of Aceh, Syech Saman.

Saman dance is usually displayed using the accompaniment of musical instruments, a drum and use the sound of the dancers and their applause is usually combined with hitting the chest and groin them as synchronization and threw the body into various directions.

This dance is guided by a leader who is usually called Syech. Because of the uniformity and timeliness of information is a necessity in this dance show, the dancers are required to have a high concentration of serious training in order to perform perfectly. This dance is performed in groups, singing with kneeling and sitting positions without using the accompaniment of musical instruments.

Because the dynamics of its motion, this dance is usually presented and danced by men, but now the development of this dance is danced by many female dancers as well as a mixture of male dancers and female dancers. This dance is danced about 10 people, with details of 8 dancers and two people as the cue singing. As the cultural heritage of Indonesia, the Saman Dance must be defined and preserved to the world.

Everybody when watching this dance feels excited and amazed because of many things from the dance; the dynamic of motion, the color of dancers’ uniform, the concentration of the dancers, and the nonexistence of music. The sound made from the dancer and not from the music makes this dance popular and has mystical model. Many students from many universities in Indonesia try to learn seriously this dance and this dance proves the precious heritage for Indonesia.
